As we close out another year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what gratitude actually looks like.
In the recovery community, we talk about gratitude constantly. But real gratitude isn’t just about the shiny moments—the wins, the milestones, or the quiet peace of a morning coffee. Real gratitude is gritty. It’s found in the trenches.
This year, I am grateful for the fight.
I am grateful for every single person who stood up this year and refused to stay silent. I am grateful for the families who turned their grief into advocacy, and for the people in recovery who showed up, day after day, to prove that change is possible.
We faced heavy challenges this year. We saw how much work is left to do to fix a broken system. But we also saw the undeniable power of community. We saw that when we mobilize, when we organize, and when we support one another, we are an unstoppable force.
To everyone who is struggling right now: please stay. The miracle happens when you don't give up.
To everyone who has walked this path with me: thank you. Thank you for your courage, your loud voices, and your relentless hope.
Let’s take a breath, hold our loved ones close, and get ready. We have a lot of work to do in 2026, and I wouldn’t want to do it alongside anyone else.
With love and gratitude,
Ryan
